The Retreat They Asked Us to Repeat

National White Shoe Law Firm
Legal Industry

The Challenge

In 2022, a national white shoe law firm brought their women’s partners together for their first annual retreat since COVID. The timing was significant — partners were re-emerging into the community after years of isolation, navigating strained relationships, and managing the weight of a high-pressure professional environment. The firm needed more than a keynote. They needed an experience that would rebuild trust, restore connection, and equip their partners with practical skills for the challenges ahead.

Our Approach

Working closely with the planning committee, ImproVision identified key focus areas based on participant needs and the firm’s priorities. We designed two concurrent program tracks — Building Trust through Radical Candor and Assertiveness and Personal Resilience — giving partners the autonomy to choose the experience most relevant to them.

Three ImproVision facilitators led the sessions simultaneously across groups, ensuring an intimate, high-engagement experience at scale. Each program wove together improvisation, storytelling, and group discussion, all grounded in research-backed best practice. Participants left with a personalized handout including reflection exercises and a concrete action plan for applying new skills to real workplace scenarios.

The Radical Candor track explored how high-trust relationships drive productivity and resilience and how practicing assertiveness with care transforms team and client dynamics. The Personal Resilience track gave partners tools to identify what energizes them, release what drains them, and cultivate a “yes, &” mindset for navigating uncertainty.

The Results

The retreat achieved 100% participation across both tracks and the response from partners was immediate. Attendees left energized, with peer-to-peer insights, strengthened relationships, and personal action plans they could apply the following Monday. The rave reviews from that first year spoke for themselves: ImproVision was invited back to lead the retreat again the following year.
